Rules

  1. Entries will be received in the Creative Arts Building at Loy Lake Park on Wednesday, October 5 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. No late entries will be accepted.
  2. Judging will begin at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 5th.
  3. All articles entered in competition must have been completed by the exhibitor within the last 5 years and not entered in a previous Grayson County Fair.
  4. The exhibitor must have been involved in the construction and/or quilting of the entry.
  5. Due to space limitations, not all entries will be hung.  Those not hung will be displayed on quilt racks and tables.
  6. All quilt entries must be clean and in good condition.
  7. No Whole Cloth Cheater Quilts accepted.
  8. Awards may consist of First, Second and Third Places in each class at Judge’s discretion, based on merit.  Participation ribbons will be awarded to all other entries.
  9. Each judge will award a Judge’s Choice rosette to their choice of entry.
  10. A People’s Choice Award will be chosen by ballots cast from the general public viewers.
  11. Articles MUST be left on display until Sunday,  October 9 when Fair closes. They must be picked by RECEIPT between 5:00 and 6:00 pm on Sunday, October 9. ABSOLUTELY NO EARLY RELEASES.
  12. Judges and superintendents reserve the right to determine if an entry is entered in the correct category and make changes if deemed appropriate.
  13. Entries WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED unless the "Hold Harmless Agreement" on the registration form has been signed.

Quilt Section

Adult Division: Any person age 19 or over

Junior Division: Age 18 and under


Classes

  1. Hand Appliqué: Appliqué is done with hand piecing and predominates over other techniques in amount or effect.
  2. Machine Appliqué: Appliqué is done with machine and predominates over other techniques in amount or effect.
  3. Hand Pieced - Hand Quilted: Hand pieced top with whole quilt hand quilted. Quilting may be completed by a second person.
  4. Hand Pieced - Machine Quilted: Hand pieced top with machine quilting (either long arm or domestic machine).  Quilting may be completed by second person.
  5. Machine Pieced – Hand Quilted: Machine pieced top with hand quilting. Quilting may be completed by a second person.
  6. Machine Pieced – Machine Quilted: Machine pieced top with quilting done by machine (either long arm or domestic). Quilting may be completed by a second person.
  7. Embroidered – Hand Embellished: Hand work/embroidery is featured in the quilt
  8. Embroidered – Machine Embellished: Machine work/embroidery is featured in the quilt.
  9. Lap, Wall or Baby quilt: all techniques included.  Entries may be entered in appropriate category listed above, or if size is appropriate, may be entered here.
  10. First Quilt completed: Must be first quilt completed and must be within the last 5 years.
  11. Miniature Quilt: Any quilt which has no side longer than 24 inches. Any combination of techniques is acceptable except that pieced blocks must have blocks 6 inches of less.
  12. Pre-stamped or fabricated: Pre-stamped fabric used in blocks to create quilt. A whole quilt made with a prestamped fabric is not acceptable. (Cheater cloth).
  13. Group quilt: More than 2 persons involved in creating the top of the quilt. Quilting of the quilt is not counted.
  14. Mixed Media: Photos, paint etc. used in creating the quilt.
  15. Art/Innovative Quilt: Created as a piece of art, using any media.
  16. Teen Division: Ages 13-18.
  17. Youth Division: Age 12 and under
